Christ consistently espoused charity and selflessness, he also wasn’t too big on rich people. Libertarians tend to be socially awkward people who value wealth over others and don’t generally give a shit about the state of the world or those around them.
If you try to argue that ’social liberalism’ and ‘liberalism’ came from christianity in anything other than the most fleeting sense of acknowledging that free will has been press-ganged by the jesus freaks as their posterboy for why ‘x did y’, you are a complete fucking idiot.
Religion has nothing to do with individualism and everything to do with suppressing it. You can argue until you’re blue in the face that the modern foundation upon which liberty is based came from a christian society, but keep in mind that the jurist system came from witch trials, that evidence law came from the spanish inquisition, that the geneva convention came out of the horrors of WWI.
Human nature is characterised by its ability to extract even a grain of wonderment out of the atrocities of holocausts.
To even think, in any serious sense that religions, particularly christianity, espoused individual liberty and championed the individual, is such onanistic, solipsistic, puerile ignorance that of course, only religion could be involved.
