That is not a reasonable compromise.
The time has come for me to offer you my perspective on some matters. What better to start with than the YL/libertarian situation already covered by my fellow words contributor. Don't get too excited, I agree with him. There are just some more issues contained somewhere within this whole miserable mess that I consider to be worth addressing. I'll now move straight to the point.
As a libertarian, I don't see the Liberal Party in the current context as representative of my political position. It is not a case of minor points of difference. I oppose so much of what this fucking terrifying machine churns out that the occasional action I can understand, maybe even support, is swallowed up by the usual vomit so rapidly that it might as well not even exist at all. I hate the Liberal Party. Thinking about it makes me angry. The prospect of actually joining it is something that strikes me as utterly laughable. Why would I join something which has members who all think terrible things that I disagree with? Why would I then go to to functions and spend time with this individuals? THERE ARE NO REASONS. I WOULD NEVER DO THESE THINGS. Why do other libertarians? Are you people really that lonely?
In my observation, the justification for such behaviour usually is a percieved common interest lying somewhere in the sphere of fiscal conservatism. Even if I accept that anyone bar an absolutely insignificant minority in the Liberal Party supports anything vaguely resembling a libertarian economic platform (hint: I don't), how can you possibly be so willing to disregard everything else? And what benefit is there to doing so? It certainly doesn't appear as if anyone that actually matters is listening to you. I think it is a pathetic waste of rare insight for fellow libertarians to be involving themselves in an organisation that positively makes me sick. You are contributing to a lost cause. I know you people are aspies (you're libertarians after all) but if you're willing to compromise essential components of your belief system and join the state club because it's the only way for you to make friends then I don't see what attracted you to the cause of freedom in the first place. It means walking on your own two fucking feet. Anyone who calls themselves a Young Liberal is either not a libertarian, hates themselves or requires a label and a sense of belonging to feel politically validated. You may feel that without it you're voice won't be heard where it matters. Well from everything I can see, it isn't being heard now. Why not at least retain your dignity?
Let me know when you guys make a shred of fucking difference. YOU WON'T.
