Picture a year ago, to the date (that being the 28th of October 2007) right now. No pauses, no ifs ands or buts, just do it you verbose chuckleheads. We were days away from the Kevin 07 Election stravaganza, the world was feeling good, growth was manifesting, etc. Life was objectively good. Birds were singing, kids were sitting the HSC, and Bali had put a hiatus on throwing Aussies in Gaol for being economic heroes.
Australia’s changed. Substantially. For the worse. The heuristic of Australian morality has shifted so alarmingly that I’m starting to not recognise the country that I was in less than 12 months ago. It seems that the powers that be are utterly fixated on pissing away all of the natural talents of this country in some fetid race to the bottom of the status quo. We’re freaking out about a man taking photos of children as art and then getting so excited that he scouted for talent (y’know like a fucking talent agent) that NSW has modified the rape laws to basically include ‘looking quizzically at a minor’. For all we know, given the level of transparency in this fucking government they’ve raised the age of consent to 32 and it’s only consent if you’re married and have a priest present for each act of intercourse.
We’ve had the Libs shift from Nelson to Turnbull, who is apparently a savior but right now seems about as useful as a cock on a windmill. Turnbull’s a self promoting cunt who exists to only help himself and not Australia.
Over the past few months of the RuddMinistration and the NSW Labor Partial-Birth Abortion Goverment we’ve seen the most striking attacks on civil and personal liberties that, hopefully, we’ll be lucky to see in our entire lifetimes. The NSW Government is outlawing everything left, right and centre to try and jump up in the polls:
a) Antisocial behaviour (i.e not voting labor) is BANNED
b) y’know economic policy IS BANNED
c) ALCOHOL MAKES PEOPLE VOODOO PHARMACOLOGY THUS WE WILL OUTLAW IT EXCEPT FOR FIVE MINUTES EACH DAY FOR PEOPLE WHO ARE OVER 40.
d) TRAINS ARE A LIE
Ruddkip has been bloviating equally about the ‘conomy’ the ‘workars’ and the ‘fuchar’. Much to no avail. He’s basically guaranteed that any cunt in Australia who loses his money for any reason need not worry because he’s got a save point before he spent it all on snail faeces. He’s been posturing and trying every which fucking way to do anything of use and it’s guaranteed us nothing. They’ve basically thrown poor people and people on pensions a cheque and said ‘hey spend this on your rheumatoid arthritis or your children’s smoking habit” the logic of it being that spending = economy++;
They’re taking away the internet. Don’t know when, don’t know why. They’re doing it. Oh, that wonderful individual Nick Xenophon is supporting the banning of the utility that will make Australia a first rate world power in the coming century because, let me get this straight, some people waste all of their money gambling?
It’s like these people lost grasp on the concept of property early on in the process. It seems that even if you own your own money and earn it, it’s not yours rightfully to spend. On anything. You can buy a series of government coupons and if you’re particularly lucky (luck defined by electoral district) you could win an AM radio [The most patriotic of bands because it only includes ONE vowel!]
Lastly, to rightly round up this particular rant, I have an issue to address those who are claiming that capitalism has fallen or failed. We’ve seen it in the news regarding the economic summit; “Bush contends that he hasn’t given up on the free market”. Really? Hasn’t he? I mean the man has bought most of the banks in the US but I digress.
You can be some brainwashed alternative fuck who thinks we should all exchange phish tickets and live off our own sense of self-satisfaction and the assorted fungal gifts growing within one’s unkempt nether regions, but that doesn’t make you correct. Capitalism and the ability for the most vulnerable in society to take advantage of what they have and make wealth for themselves is the most emancipating system available.
You can ‘lament’ the fall of marxism, communism and all other such collectivist bullshit, or you can actually have proper faith in humanity and have a belief that others will interact in a manner befitting those of humans. We have the right evolutionary background to support a proper development of an equitable capitalist system. Humans are programmed to hate cheats, humans are programmed to hate those who don’t work for what they have. Capitalism isn’t dead; and what we’ve seen in the USA wasn’t capitalism. Capitalism isn’t assuming that because you have n dollars you have 250 n dollars and thus can spend it or share it or lend it out.
Capitalism, by its very nature is related to capital, as in, what you have and what you can do with it. Every single human on this planet has capital. We have our own intellectual capital and our ability to add value to everything we see either externally or internally. The problem with this whole left-wing attack on markets is that it doesn’t come from any morally defensible position. It’s not an ‘do something dickass the whole fucker’s gone tits up’ perspective. It’s from a jeering and jarring perspective. “HAR HAR THE PEOPLE’S JUDEAN FRONT WAS RIGHT PROPERTY IS THEFT LETS GET SOME MARXISM UP IN THE HOUSE”.
It’s not the right way about it. People are inherently social beings. We want to interact and experience the lives of others. Just not under threat. Capitalism is the greatest human experiment and it actually succeeds when not subjected to market steroids or controls. Let people, good, honest, people figure their own shit out.
Don’t be so arrogant as to tell them the government knows best.

Absolutely 100% agreed. I never realised how fragile certain things I had were until the government decided it wanted to take them away, and never would in my wildest dreams have imagined that the ALP would be so audacious and far reaching in their attacks on our basic freedoms. I just hope young people wake up in the next 2 years and realise that the world is crumbling around them and that much of the blame falls squarely upon the shoulders of the man they voted in last November.
“… or you can actually have proper faith in humanity and have a belief that others will interact in a manner befitting those of humans… Humans are programmed to hate cheats, humans are programmed to hate those who don’t work for what they have.”
Naw. Look at you, all faithin’ in humanity and cheat-hating programming.
Justin: Go team mixed/extended metaphor. Your next campaign slogan can be ‘Sky = falling.’
Nolan, you’re an absolute hero.
