Recommended reading for the bored/lonely internet user
This is a rare situation indeed. I'll freely admit that most of the things (particularly videos) and items that I comment on are stolen from other sources. I'm a linkbaiting traffic thief and proud of it. But you, the child of freedom, surely require some informational sources to maximise your overall craniation?
Thus I present to you an unimpeachable source of information and win, the likes of which have never been concatenated into one blog post before. If you don't use an RSS reader, I strongly suggest if you have a google account to activate google reader, or download an RSS reader for your system because dude... physically viewing webpages to check and see if there's new content is so 1999.
Playing Politics
Tim Blair - Friend of the site, and fellow Australian bloggernaut, Blair always finds the perfect quip and the funny in the absurd. Though a wholly non-patriotic climate change denier (in the full 'lalalalalal nothing's happening' sense rather than the 'hey lets approach this pragmatically and not claim the sky is falling' way) he is definitely a fantastic addition to your reading list. Switch off your elitism gene and deal with the fact that the link is to the tele: Here You Go
The Daily Dish - Another massive personal favourite is naturalised American Andrew Sullivan. Fiscal Conservative, Socially liberal HIV+ ostentatious gay man/blogger. Happens to be one of my favourite American pundits and I have a great deal of fondness for his commitment to his convictions given his apparent 'party' wants nothing to do with him due to his sexuality, the bigoted fucks. Come on Down
Little Green Footballs - US Web Designer and unashamed Republican, LGF has been responsible for pulling down some serious hits in the past years. Always good content (if not OSTENTATIOUSLY BIASED but they're up front about it) and there's usually some serious lulz in the comments. Massive double props for the dude hatorading on Intelligent Design and the snake-oil salesmen that propagate its idiocy: Lock and Load
Science of Win and Awesome
PZ Myers - PZ Myers, hell of awesome Marine Biologist, fellow godless heathen and all around cool dude. The blog skews left (like way left) but that's okay because the man hatorades on religious idiocy, hateorades on psuedoscience, hatorades on those who hate freedom and he was also mentioned in Overcompensating (good webcomic). You can find the heroic site hereafore
Bad Science - Ben Goldacre's (Medical Doctor in the UK) blog and incredible guide to pwning all things woo and pseudoscience. Goldacre's taken on the Vaccine scare (wow is THAT bullshit), homeopathy, bad clinical trials by drug companies and all other manner of seriously dodgy science. It's always insightful, hilarious and generally brilliantly done, particularly for a man who is working full time as a doctor. If you love the site, go over to bookdepository and buy the book, it's equally as brilliant. Take the Jump
Charlie Brooker - Guardian columnist and all around misanthropic bugger, but he and I have almost identical opinions on most annoyances and he's far more erudite than I'll ever be. Gets updated each week so please, check out the old bastard's site: Dance into the fire.
So that should about cover it. If you're bored and looking for sites to waste time on, those are definitely some great sites to whack into your feed reader. I'll try to post a few new interesting sites that I wander onto each month to make sure that I keep feeding you with a delicious source of more and more juicy content.
Note: You may notice that I've avoided HuffingtonPost and DailyKos from this list. It's for two reasons: Firstly, they're both oversaturated and incredbily shrill, secondly whilst there is some great content coming out on both of those sites, they're too underfiltered and really give way to some seriously batshit content. LGF usually shreds the kostards and the hufftards if they get too whiny, but at the moment there isn't a great repository of non-shrill content coming from that side of the fence. If I find it (or someone recommends one to me, I'll whack it up asap).
